Are You a Believer? TrouBeliever Fest 2019 (and Other Happenings)

Words by John Caldwell

JULY 12-13

Calling all lovers of songwriting, storytelling, and intimate performances, this one-of-a-kind festival is just what the doctor ordered. TrouBeliever Fest differentiates itself from other music festivals by specifically celebrating song-centric artists and bands. It offers a “deconstruction of the big show” by letting artists perform a part of their set in a more intimate, broken-down presentation set apart from what is seen at a typical venue show. Each artist is invited to talk about the stories behind each song and give an insider glimpse into their songwriting process. Now in its second year, TrouBeliever will be hosted at the Ogden Amphitheater off Historic 25th Street. This festival is the brainchild of Grammy award-winning songwriters Monty Powell and Anna Wilson. They invite you to embark on a new kind of musical journey by celebrating the enduring power of songs.

Aside from the performances on the main stage, festival goers can attend songwriting workshops and masterclasses on Saturday morning which will be led by veteran songwriters. Are you an aspiring songwriter? Learn insights on the art of storytelling and lyric crafting from some of the greats with tips and tricks of the trade dealing with rhyme schemes, alliteration, assonance, rhythmic phrasing, and more. Other happenings include masterclass with Scarlet Keys, Professor of Songwriting at Berklee College of Music, The Golden Rules of Songwriting with acclaimed songwriter Rebekah Powell, and the T-Fest Acoustic Cafe kick off party at The Monarch for intimate acoustic sets from some of the best troubadours in the business.
